State XC 2022

On Saturday, October 29th, the State cross country meet was held for both the boys and girls at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge. In order to make it to State, the team had to place in the top three from Districts or individually they had to run in the top 15 in order to advance.

From Algona, Moriah Knapp was the only girl to qualify for State this year. This year marks Knapp’s third year in a row that she qualified for State. Knapp ended up finishing in 34th place.

Ryan Stundahl also qualified for State this year, making it his second time throughout his high school career to go to State. This year, just like Knapp, Stundahl was the only boy from AHS to make it to State. Stundahl ended his year finishing 33rd at State.

Both Stundahl and Knapp had to run through a very tough field of class 3A competition. Coach Waltz is extremely proud of both these State qualifiers and says, “Cross Country is a part of you, but it’s not who you are. Cross country has built the character you are, but it’s not your definition.”
