Veteran's Day 2022

Veteran’s Day was established in 1954 when President Eisenhower signed a bill and Congress passed it. Before this bill was passed, this day was called “Armistice Day” to celebrate veterans. Veteran’s Day is a time to thank and honor all of the veterans who have served and defended our nation. Veteran’s Day is all about the veterans, even though each day should be devoted to thanking and honoring them.

Algona Middle School is hosting its yearly Veteran’s Day Program on November 11, 2022, in the Wilcox Performing Arts Center, starting at 9:30 a.m. This program usually lasts an hour, and all area veterans are welcome to attend this event. During this ceremony, the 7th and 8th grade choir and band students will perform. Troop 71 Boy Scouts will also demonstrate their flag folding. The guest speaker this year is Adam Throne, who is a veteran. The veterans will be recognized during the ceremony by having their names called and a flower pinned on them. After the program, the veterans can visit and have cookies and coffee donated by Feedmill and Country Maid. Lillian Etherington states, “I really enjoyed going to the Veteran’s Day Program in middle school to see how happy the veterans always were!”

Veteran’s Day is very special to all veterans, and they deserve to be recognized for the wonderful things they did for their country!
