Boys' basketball vs. Estherville 2022

The 2022-2023 basketball season has officially started. Last year, the boys ended their season with a record of 8-14, and the girls ended with an overall record of 11-11. The girls started practice on November 7th, and the boys started the following Monday, on November 14th.

The girls had their first game on Monday, November 21st, against Newell Fonda. The girls lost 82-25 to a very tough Mustang group. The Mustangs were runner ups at the 2022 State basketball championship, behind Bishop Garrigan. The girls kept a positive attitude, as sophomore, Lauren McLaughlin, said, β€œIt was a good opportunity to learn and get better.”

The boys traveled to Emmetsburg for their first scrimmage on the same night. It was a very close game, but ultimately Algona lost 69-70.

On Tuesday, November 22nd, the girls had another home game against Forest City. The girls put up an extremely good fight and won the game 39-38 with a last second three point basket, shot by McLaughlin. McLaughlin led in points with 14, followed by Tora Solbach with 10.

The Bulldogs girls had yet another home game against Estherville on November 28th. The girls played another top squad, as the Midgets are coming off of being class 3A State champions last year. The Bulldogs lost 64-30.

The boys had their first home game that night, also taking on the Estherville Midgets. Their game was amazing and was close the whole way through. They pulled off the win, 81-69. Ben Helmers led in points with 18, followed by Simon Feucht with 16, and Landon Welp with 15.

The girls have a home game against Hampton on December 2nd, and both teams travel to Charles City on Saturday, December 3rd. Good luck Dogs!
