Maylyn Davis 1st at Nevada 2022

To start the year off, on Thursday, November 17th, the girls’ wrestling team traveled to Fort Dodge to take on Humboldt, Eagle Grove, Boone, Des Moines East, East Sac County, North Union, and Fort Dodge. The Algona squad is made up of girls from Algona, North Union, and North Iowa. Each girl got two matches at the meet. The records were: Makayla Erpelding 1-1, Eliza Schultz 1-1, Jenna Stohr 1-1, Savannah Steven 2-0, Megan McPeak 2-0, Regan Nicholson 0-2, Katie Ludwig 0-2, Ryan Haynes 1-1, Malyn Davis 2-0, Reese Taylor 2-0, Abbie Gorham 1-1, Gretchen Gorham 1-1, Harley Tobin 2-0, and Alyssa Olson 0-2.

For their second meet of the year, the girls traveled to Nevada to take on Ames, Ballard, BCLUW/South Hardin, Boone, Carroll, Carlisle, Centerville, Creston (HWY 34), DCG, Eagle Grove, Gilbert, Iowa Falls-Alden, Marshalltown, Moravia, Nevada, Norwalk, Ogden,

Panorama, Perry, Pleasantville, Saydel, Southeast Polk, Southeast Warren, South Tama, Urbandale, Waukee NW, and West Marshall. The girls had seven place at the event. Jenna Stohr went 4-1 and finished in third at 125 pounds, Savannah Steven went 4-1 and finished in second at 125 pounds, Megan McPeak went 4-1 and finished in fifth at 130 pounds, Ryan Haynes went 4-1 and finished in fifth at 140 pounds, Malyn Davis went 5-0 and was the champion at 115 pounds, Gretchen Gorham went 3-1 and finished third at 190 pounds, and Harley Tobin went 3-0 and was the champion at 105 pounds. Other girls’ records were: Makayla Erpelding 0-2, Eliza Schultz 1-2, Katie Ludgwig 1-2, and Abbie Gorham 4-1. 

On Tuesday, November 22nd, the girls traveled to Mason City where they took on Mason City, Clear Lake, Northwood-Kenseth, Emmetsburg, Eagle Grove, West Fork, Waterloo East, and Des Moines East. The girls did well, their records were: Katie Ludwig 2-2, Reese Taylor 1-2, Makayla Erpelding 2-1, Alyssa Olson 3-0, Malyn Davis 2-1, Savannah Steven 3-0, Ryan Haynes 3-0, Harley Tobin 3-0, and Gretchen Gorham 3-0. 

Head coach, Jake Adams says, “The girls are wrestling really well. They never give up and impress me every day.” Good luck to the girls as this Friday, December 2nd, they will be traveling to Humboldt to compete in a tournament!
