Around the holiday season there are many people who want to give back, and there are a variety of ways to do that. People can make donations to local organizations like the Food Pantry, CARE Team, Toys for Tots, and Adopt a Family, just to name a few.
The Food Pantry and the CARE Team are the two main organizations in Algona for donations that stay local. The Food Pantry is located on East State Street. The middle schoolers at Algona did a “block the door” event, where they brought in food to stack to see how high they could cover the door. Their goal was to block the classrooms from having to have class. When they finished, all of the items got donated to the Food Pantry.
Also, the CARE Team is an amazing place for donations as they have a variety of clothing, furniture, and more available to those in need. It is located on North Lantry Street.
Toys for Tots is another charity that accepts donations of toys for kids this coming Christmas. Anyone can make a donation online at https://toysfortotsusa.org/. There is also a box for donations right inside the door at Bomgaars and Fareway. The Algona girls’ basketball team participated in an event called Achieve Challenge. Here they scrimmaged against West Hancock and all of the money raised went to purchase toys for the Toys for Tots program. The team went together on December 1st to buy presents from Bomgaars to donate.
This year the talented and gifted students from Algona are doing donations to the Algona Manor and putting together Christmas gift baskets for the residents. People can donate by December 14th at the Algona Manor.
Making donations to these places are really helpful to people in need for the upcoming holidays. Vanessa Vasquez says, “Donations are such a sweet thing to do, especially for families in need.”
