Special Olympics basketball skills 2023

On Tuesday, January 24th, Algona students, Kolby Preuschl, Gaje Peterson, and Katelyn Ortloff, traveled to the Bedell Family YMCA in Spirit Lake, Iowa, to compete in Special Olympics basketball skills. They demonstrated their basketball skills through passing, dribbling, and shooting.

Each opponent competed against other athletes from around Iowa in divisions of similar ability levels. Preuschl and Peterson both placed 1st in their respective divisions, while Ortloff placed 3rd.

Next up, the athletes will further perform their basketball skills at State, held in Iowa City on March 10th and 11th. Coach Taylor states, “Our athletes continue to improve, have fun, and do well representing Algona at these events.”

Special Olympics athletes will also begin training and preparing for the track and field competition, which will be held in April.
