Colin Roberts swim 2024

Colin Roberts, Algona High School sophomore, swims for Fort Dodge High School because Algona does not have a men’s swim team.

On Saturday, January 20, 2024, Roberts swam in the Iowa Alliance Conference meet against Ames, Des Moines Roosevelt, Ottumwa, Marshalltown, Des Moines Lincoln, Des Moines Hoover, Mason City, and Des Moines East. Although the Fort Dodge team finished last overall, the boys still had great times and pushed their hardest against very big schools.

Roberts placed 17th in the 100 freestyle out of 61 swimmers with a time of 57.79. He placed 11th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:13.22. In this event, he swam against 31 other swimmers. He also swam the 200 freestyle relay and placed 12th with a time of 1:42.97. In the 400 freestyle relay, his team finished with a time of 4:03.99 and placed 11th. Roberts also placed 11th in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:54.69. Roberts stated, “It was fun, but I was tired the whole time.”

The boys swim again on Saturday, February 3, in Mason City for another Conference meet against Ankeny, Cedar Falls, Decorah, Marshalltown, Mason City, Spencer, and Waterloo West. Good luck to Roberts as he continues to swim strong and carry Algona’s name with Fort Dodge.
