Hoyt Crouch - Genius Olympiad

Hoyt Crouch participated at the Genius Olympiad science fair in Rochester, New York, in June last year, from the 12th to the 17th. His project, “Vortex Generators at Low Speed,” was well received. His dedication to his work allowed him to attend the global high school project competition. The goal of the fair is to recognize innovative solutions that students have regarding environmental issues.

At the Western Iowa Science and Engineering Fair, in Fort Dodge, Crouch was rewarded with the chance to attend the renowned competition in New York. The trip brought many opportunities, such as presenting his work, a trip to Niagara Falls, and many musical performances.

When asked about his thoughts on the trip, Crouch stated, “I liked the International Fair because each country had their own table.” Each country represented at the fair was able to walk in with their respective flags. From around the world, 53 different countries were recognized. Crouch was one of two from the state of Iowa who were represented at the prestige fair.

The scientific reasonings have continued into the new year. The middle school held their annual science fair last week. Junior, Emerson Waltz, has also been breaking barriers with her project. Waltz was a finalist in the National STEM challenge. The challenge is a nationwide organization to get students involved with their skills to build solutions for world problems.

The science department at Algona High has been in full swing throughout the year.
