On Saturday, January 20, Algona’s Dawg Pound Sound traveled to Des Moines to join the Drake University Pep Band during a basketball game. A few weeks earlier, they were invited by the director of the band because Mr. Liebl is friends with their director. Mr. Liebl accepted the invitation.
Many of the AHS band members said they enjoyed playing with Drake and getting to know some of their members. Jace Mortensen was interviewed after and when asked for his thoughts on the experience, he said, “It was fun! We tried our best to keep up with them, but their music is hard.” The band got to play familiar favorites, such as “Holiday” and “Sweet Caroline” as well as many others. They also got a chance to practice their sight reading skills with several songs they had never seen before.
Overall, the bands both had lots of fun and enjoyed watching the basketball game and getting to know new people.
