2023-2024 returning boys' basketball letterwinners

The Algona boys have a current Conference record of 7-5 and an overall record of 12-6.

Throughout the season, the boys have shown a great amount of determination. A lot of their games have been close in score. It has been great to see the effort and perseverance throughout their games.

Sophomore, Levi Walker, says, “We have a lot of chemistry. It’s a fun team to play with and a fun team to watch.”

Last week, on January 29th, the boys played Clear Lake at home. The Lions were a tough opponent; the Bulldogs lost 47-68. Alex Manske was the leading scorer with 19 points.

On February 2nd, the boys played at St. Edmond. It was a great game to watch. Ben Helmers had 10 rebounds, while Landon Welp had 10 assists. The final score was 71-62.

Juniors, Ben Helmers and Alex Manske, are leading in points and rebounds. Ben has 357 points and Alex has 114 rebounds.

This week, on the 5th, the boys played a previously postponed game at Pochahontas. The boys walked away with a great win. The final score was 83-58. Junior, Ben Helmers, tied the Algona school record of most points in a game. He finished the game with 45 points.

On the 6th, the boys played Clarion-Goldfield-Dows at home. The game was close and the Bulldogs came home with an exciting win, with the final score being 55-48.

Tonight, the boys are traveling to Hampton-Dumont-CAL for their last game of the week. Hampton has a current overall record of 11-6. The last time the Bulldogs played the Cowboys, AHS won by just five points, so it should be a good game.

Next week the boys play a non-Conference game at Spencer on Monday, February 12th and then turn around and travel to Webster City on the 13th.

As the boys’ regular season is coming to an end, be sure to make it to their next few games if you want to see them play!
