Girls' State wrestling 2024

Algona girls’ wrestling has been having an amazing season! To start their postseason, they competed at Super Regionals in Sioux City, on January 26th.

The girls worked hard at the meet, sending six girls to compete at the State competition: Harley Tobin, who got first; Laura Stohr, who got third; Malyn Davis, who got second; Abbe Gorham, who got third; Reagan Haynes, who got first; and Gretchen Gorham, who got first. The team placed second for the region.

The six girls traveled to Xtreme Arena in Coralville to compete in the State competition on February first and second. Harley Tobin went 2-2 and made it to the blood round, which is one round from placing. Laura Stohr went 1-2, Malyn Davis went 2-2, Abbe Gorham went 0-2, Reagan Haynes went 2-2, and Gretchen Gorham went 3-2 and also made it to the blood round.

The conclusion of State wraps up the girls’ season. This year, the team was coached by Jacob Adams, Nicki Roof, and Luke Satern. The team graduates four seniors: Carlee Allen, Abbe Gorham, Gretchen Gorham, and Regan Nicholson. They have put many years of hard work into this sport, and it has certainly paid off.
