The Algona FFA Chapter is gearing up for another exciting celebration of National FFA Week, a tradition that has been embraced since the chapter’s beginning in 1948. With a rich history of agricultural advocacy and education, the chapter eagerly anticipates the week of festivities from Saturday, February 17th to Saturday, February 24th.
This year, the Algona Chapter plans a diverse array of events to showcase the significance of FFA in the lives of its members and the community. The festivities commence on Monday, February 19th, with the launch of a week-long block scavenger hunt for Algona High School students, creating a buzz of excitement within the school. Monday is also designated as All American Day, marked by a sea of red, white, and blue throughout Algona High School.
Tuesday, February 20th, students will proudly wear their chapter t-shirts and sweatshirts, a visual testament to their commitment to FFA. In the evening, the community will gather for the annual pancake feed and labor auction, a cherished tradition where members are auctioned for their services to the highest bidder for four hours of work. The funds raised go towards supporting FFA initiatives such as updating shop equipment, greenhouse updates, and community service projects. The community is encouraged to join the FFA members in the Algona High School commons. The meal will begin at 5 PM and the labor auction will start at 6 PM.
Thursday, February 22nd, is Blue and Gold Day, showcasing their love of the FFA. Farmer Friday, on February 23rd, will have members embracing their agricultural roots, sporting their favorite flannel or farmer clothing. This is also FFA Recruitment Day, where chapter representatives engage with eighth graders at Algona Middle School and Bishop Garrigan, sharing the joys and benefits of being part of the FFA community. During FFA Week, the chapter members go the extra mile by serving cherry pies to eighth-grade students at both schools, adding a sweet touch to their outreach efforts.
Acknowledging the importance of support from various quarters, Algona FFA expresses their gratitude to the Kossuth County Farm Bureau for their generous contribution of pizza during the lunch hour for FFA members, fostering a sense of celebration among ag students.
Special thanks are also extended to the ACSD Board of Education and administration for their unwavering support and approval of various initiatives, showcasing their commitment to agricultural education. Also thanks to the Algona FFA Alumni with heartfelt appreciation for their behind-the-scenes support, ensuring the chapter’s continued success.
The chapter also recognizes the vital role played by the Kossuth County Advance and KLGA Radio in keeping the public informed about the Algona FFA Chapter’s ongoing events and activities. The entire Algona community and surrounding towns are appreciated for their consistent support and cooperation, instrumental in fostering the growth and success of the community’s future leaders.
