Nashville

The Algona High School music department gets the opportunity to travel to Nashville from March 13th through the 17th. The trip is for both choir and band students who would like to attend. They have a fun-filled itinerary planned for their week away. Senior, Aleena Rosacker, says, “I’m excited to finally go on a band and choir trip my senior year. I’m ready to get out of Iowa!”

Thursday will be their first full day in Nashville. They will start the day at a Honky Tonk Party at the Stage on Broadway where they will get to listen to a bar band play traditional and contemporary country music and southern rock. Later that morning, they will have a self-guided visit at the Musicians Hall of Fame. Thursday afternoon they will head to the Sound Kitchen where both the band and choir will get the opportunity to record a musical piece of their choice. To end their first night, they will be attending the Nashville Symphony, featuring special guest artists The Irish Tenors, in honor of St. Patrick’s Day.

Friday the students will be traveling to the Country Music Hall of Fame where they will get to look around at all of the museum exhibits as well as co-write and produce a song from scratch with a Nashville recording artist and record producer. They also will be exploring Madame Tussaud’s Nashville and enjoying a backstage tour of the Grand Ole Opry. After a busy day, they will enjoy a group dinner at Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen. Later that night, they will return to the Grand Ole Opry to enjoy a performance.

Saturday they will be attending a clinic at Vanderbilt University, where the band will work with the director of bands, Thomas Verrier, and the choir will work with the director of the Vanderbilt concert choir, David Williams. They will also be attending the National Museum of African American Music and watching a live performance at the Motown dinner show.

Sophomore, Jozzie Beaver, says, “I am looking forward to the performances we get to see and for our recording session.”
