Jazz night 2024

The Algona band and choirs are holding their annual all school jazz concert on March 11, at seven PM, in the PAC. It will include performances from the middle school jazz band and jazz choir, as well as the high school jazz band and choir.

Recently, both the high school and middle school jazz choirs competed at the Emmetsburg Extravaganza, in Emmetsburg, on March 2nd. The middle school received first place, and the high school, Scarlet Midnight, received second place in their 3A class. Both choirs will be playing their competition setlist at the concert.

The high school jazz band also competed recently, at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, on February 19. They competed against six other 3A jazz bands and received first place and walked away with two outstanding soloist awards for Catherine Hart and Evan Steburg.

The all school jazz concert is meant to showcase the excellence here at Algona and to celebrate the jazz ensembles and their dedication. This concert is a great opportunity for anyone who has yet to see the Algona jazz ensembles, as this will showcase only them and their hard work.

Student, Seth Walker, says, “The all school jazz concert has always been a nice way to share our repertoire with the community. It’s typically our last performance of the season, so it’s always bittersweet. It’s also fun getting to see the jazz band perform.” This is Walker’s 3rd and last year performing for this event.

Make sure to wish the Algona jazz ensembles good luck before the season ends!
