Drake Relays 2024

The girls’ track team was set to compete on April 8th at Bishop Garrigan, but it was postponed due to unfortunate weather conditions. On April 9th the girls hosted the Hackbarth Relays at Bulldog Stadium. Coming into the meet, the girls were coming off a strong third place finish at the North Iowa Indoor Championship. Starting with the girls’ relay teams, the 4x100 relay team placed second with a time of 52.41; runners were Lillian Allie, Maya Lentz, Summer Thompson, and Natalie Johnson. The 4x200 relay finished first with a 1:52.17; runners were Allie, Thompson, Kaitlyn Burns, and Natalie Johnson. The 4x400 team finished in fifth place with a time of 4:30.79; Burns, Charli Dodds, Malyn Davis, and Macy Knapp were the runners. The 800m relay team finished fourth with a time of 2:02.45; Ashlyn Waldera, Aylee Herke, Allie, and Burns competed for the girls in this event. The 1600m relay team placed second with a time of 4:52.51; the runners were Danica VanGorkom, Alissa Engel, Sienna Fehr, and Malyn Davis. The girls’ 4x800 team finished with a time of 10:06.92, which pushed them to a first place finish. Mara Davis, Dodds, Malyn Davis, and Knapp were the runners. Moving to individual events, in the 100m dash, Summer Thompson finished seventh with a time of 14.08 and Natalie Johnson brought home first place with a winning time of 13.21. In the 200m dash, Natalie Johnson finished second with a time of 27.75. In the 400m Maya Lentz finished sixth for the girls with a time of 66.98. The girls completed a clean sweep in the 800m dash with Charli Dodds finishing second with a time of 2:28.93 and Macy Knapp winning the event with a time of 2:26.67. In the 1600m dash, Malyn Davis finished 4th with a time of 5:46.04 while sister Mara finished third with a time of 5:29.89. Ending with field events, in shot put Reagan Haynes finished third with a throw of 33-03.75. In discus, Reagan Haynes finished fourth with a throw of 98-1 and Ashley Cantu finished tightly ahead, in third, with a throw of 101-4. Summer Thompson took home fifth in long jump with a jump of 13-08.25. Madison Ehrig brought home high jump first place for the girls with a winning jump of 5-3. The girls’ efforts paid off as they dominated and finished first place in the meet with second place being 53 points behind.

After a dominating meet, the girls competed Monday, April 15th, in Spirit Lake at the co-ed meet and  Thursday, April 18th, in Webster City. The girls’ next competition is Monday, April 22nd, in Humboldt and Tuesday, April 23rd, at Waldorf College in Forest City.

The boys’ track team was also set to compete at Garrigan on April 8th, but that was postponed. They traveled to Clear Lake on April 9th for the Lion Relays. Starting with relays, the 4x100 team finished third with a time of 44.25; runners were Jack Limbaugh, Will Weichert, Levi Walker, and Evan Allie. The 4x200 team placed third with a time of 1:39.75. Running for the team in this was Owen Johnson, Dawson Elsbecker, Levi Walker, and Quintin Frambach. The boys’ 4x400 team finished in third place with a time of 3:45.29 with Gavin Weber, Ashton Moreno, Joseph Ricklefs, and Hoyt Crouch competing for the Bulldogs. The 800m relay finished with a time of 1:40.33 and a fourth place finish. The athletes who competed for the boys were Jack Limbuagh, Walker, Elsbecker, and Moreno. The 1600m relay team was Elsbecker, Walker, Ricklefs, and Weber, who finished first place at the meet with a time of 3:53.64. In the 100m dash, Will Weichert placed fourth with a time of 11.36 and Evan Allie finished second with a time of 11.19. In the 200m dash, Evan Allie finished fourth with a 23.88 and William Weichert finished third with a time of 23.63. The Bulldogs completed a clean sweep in the 400m dash with Ashton Moreno placing second with a time of 52.86 and Evan Allie won the meet with a time of 50.94. In the 800m dash and the 3200m dash, Breckin Borchardt finished in 8th place with times of 2.22.94 in the 800 and 11.45.43 in the 3200. In the 1600m, Jace Mortenson placed third with a time of 5:07.62 and Gavin Weber won the meet with a winning time of 4:47.38. In field events, Jorge Contreras finished in sixth with a high jump of 5-6. In long jump, Dawson Elsbecker placed sixth with a jump of 17-04 and Will Weichert finished fifth with a jump of 17-08. In discus, Shriji Patel finished sixth with a throw of 118-07 and Max Nevitt won the meet with a throw of 141-06. In shot put, Jack Limbaugh placed fourth with a throw of 45-10.50 and Max Nevitt won shot put with a throw of 50-02.00. The boys fought hard but would fall short of winning the meet, finishing second overall. 

Following a strong meet in Clear Lake, the boys competed on Monday, April 15th, in Spirit Lake, Thursday, April 18th, at Bulldog Stadium, and April 19th in Pocahontas. The boys compete next Monday, April 22, in Mason City and Tuesday, April 23, in Emmetsburg. Junior sprinter and thrower, Jack Limbaugh, says “Run fast, turn left.”
