Many AHS art and photography students went to Fort Dodge on Wednesday, April 9th, and showed their artistic abilities at the NCC Art Show. Algona wasn’t the only school there, as other artists in the North Central Conference were too. The artists from Algona were Elizabeth Kinsman, Melani Beria Riviera, Jessy Brown, Emma Cecil, Ryan Haynes, Reese Taylor, Reagan Haynes, Ellie Vaske, Natalie Johnson, Deitra Broesder, Mara Davis, Jonas Kiel, and Izaha Crawmer.
While on the trip, the artists spent time judging art, making bags of their own, working on depth in pictures, playing with oil, water, food dye, and dish soap to create art, and making sketchbooks or scrapbooks. They also enjoyed a variety of lunch options from the Iowa Central Cafe. The day ended with the judging results. Mara Davis says, “I had so much fun. There was a lot of great art.”
Many of the AHS artists were winners, including Ryan Haynes with Best of Show 1st place, Brown with Best of Painting 1st place and People’s Choice 2nd place, Crawmer with Best of Mixed Media 2nd place and People’s Choice 1st place, Reagan Haynes with Best of Sculpture 1st place, Vaske with Best of Ceramics 1st place, Davis with Best of Painting 2nd place, Broesder with Algona’s Choice 1st place, and Taylor with Algona’s Choice 2nd place! All winners won a mug that said, “It’s a good day to make some art!”
On Wednesday, April 16th, the same students went to another art show, this time at the Algona Public Library. The Algona students went around 9:30 am, checked out all of the artwork, and enjoyed free donuts, orange juice, and many other goodies. They then waited about 30- 45 minutes to hear the results. The winners were Reagan Haynes with best art from Algona, winning $50, and Brown won overall best art and won $150. They then went to Cinco and enjoyed time with each other. You can see all of their artwork in the display cases in commons and close to Mr.Yi’s classroom.
