Algona High School’s Model United Nations team made a strong showing at this year’s North Central Iowa Regional Conference. Ninety-nine students from across the region took part in the event, and Algona’s delegation stood out with an excellent showing!
Six Algona students were named Outstanding Delegates: Elijah Garrett, Kinsey Throne, Abby Lampe, Triston Fillingim, Jordan Jansen, and Nicholas DePue. In addition, Lizzie Gatton and Thomas Espe were recognized as Alternate Delegates.
The day was filled with lively debate and problem-solving, as students stepped into the shoes of world leaders to tackle international issues. Each year the event continues to grow stronger, and this year was no exception.
A special thanks goes to Kinsey Throne, who brought homemade United Nations cookies to share with the team! Such a "sweet" ending to a successful day.
Looking ahead, Algona’s Model UN will travel to the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines on October 29th and 30th to take part in the Iowa Youth Symposium.
