This year Algona’s quiz bowl team has competed in a total of three tournaments thus far, fortunately finding success in each tournament. Following their success, they’ve placed well in every tournament, even qualifying for Nationals.
Quiz bowl member, Nick DePue, states, “Every round you don’t know what’s going to happen.”
On October 18, 2025, Algona’s quiz bowl team competed at Bishop Garrigan against many teams, ranging from areas around Des Moines, to Sioux City. Even with all of these teams, an Algona team managed to make it to the playoffs, finishing 8th overall.
On November 22, 2025, at Saint Edmond, Algona had success against their competition, placing 3rd overall. This qualified the team for quiz bowl Nationals, allowing the team to continue further into the season.
On December 13th, Algona was supposed to compete at Spirit Lake, but unfortunately the meet was cancelled due to weather.
On January 10, 2026, Algona competed at the final tournament of the regular season at Boyden Hall, placing 5th.
Algona’s quiz bowl team has now finished their regular season, providing time for the quiz bowl members to prepare for hosting a middle school quiz bowl tournament in March. In June, the team will finish out their season at Nationals in Indianapolis, hopefully crushing the opposing competition.
