Robets and Doocy swim 2026

Written by Colin Roberts

Algona High School has two Algona swimmers on the Garrigan Swim Team because AHS doesn’t offer boys’ swim. These two are seniors Colin Roberts and Owen Doocy. The swimmers on the team have been doing great this year with their performances.

On January 22, 2026, the Bears faced off against Spencer and Sioux City and faced a tough fight against the both of them. In this meet, Roberts and Doocy faced off in the 100 Breast where they both had great times.

On January 17th, 2026, the Bears participated in the Rusty Garst Invitational where the Bears faced some of the best competition of the season so far and scored 116 points. Roberts placed 5th in the 200 IM.

On January 13th, the Bears went against the Mason City Riverhawks and the Spencer Tigers. They put up a great fight against them; the Bears scored 21 points against Spencer and 38 points against Mason City.

January 8th was a meet in Fort Dodge where the Bears faced the Dodgers and the Des Moines East Scarlets, scoring a total of 24 points.

On January 5th they faced off against the Spencer Tigers at their only home meet of the season. During this meet, they also congratulated Colin Roberts and Owen Doocy on Senior Night.

On December 13th of 2025, they competed against very tough competition at the Marcussen Invitational in Cedar Falls where they scored 44 points.

Their first meet of the season took place on December 2nd of 2025 where the Golden Bears faced off in a quad with Spencer, Carroll, and Fort Dodge in Carroll. As a team they scored 68 points.

Overall the Bears are doing the best they can having not quite as big of a team as the opponents they are facing. They are having a good season with plenty of time drops and placing well in every meet. Owen Doocy says, “My favorite part about the swim meets is going out to the fun places to eat.”
