The Algona High School auto students have been busy wrenching in the shop. They also took their classroom knowledge and attended a competition at DMACC. The students have been working hard on my different vehicles and tractors, gaining a lot of knowledge while working hands on.
The auto class is a dual credit elective for Iowa Lakes Community College and AHS. There are currently 12 juniors and five seniors in auto.
Teacher Tim Ricklefs said, “Horse power sells cars, torque wins races.”
At DMACC, the students took a skills test and placed 8th i
n the competition. The top three students from AHS were Tucker Brunsvold, Cole Hildman, and Mason Green. These three went back down to do a hands-on competition. Some of the skills covered in the hands-on portion were torquing down heads, testing injectors, and checking AC levels. Hildman and Brunsvold placed 8th overall and won several tools.
The students have been working on many different vehicles throughout the year in auto. They have done many oil changes and have also pulled two different motors.
