The Algona High School’s chapter of National Honor Society students give back by putting on a blood drive every year. This year the blood drive will take place on Friday, the 13th of February, in the Performance Arts Center lobby from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm.
Summer Thompson, Aylee Herke, Jordan Jansen, Tate Carter, Macy Knapp, Gavin Weber, Elijah Garrett, Brooklyn Adams, Natalee Reemtsma, Abigail Droessler, Jozzlynne Beaver, Allison Trunkhill, Reese Taylor, and Jillian Burns are all current members of NHS and will be volunteering their time to put on the blood drive.
If you are 16 years or older, this is a great way to help out the community and those in need. The importance of bringing blood drives to high schools is to introduce the younger population to the generosity that comes from donating blood. Life Serve says, “One in seven people entering a hospital need blood, only five percent of the eligible population chooses to donate.”
So if you or a person you know are able to give back to our community, you can donate from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm on Friday the 13th of February. If you're interested, there is a sign up sheet in the high school office as well as QR codes around the school. If you are a community member who wants to donate, go to lifeserve.info on the internet or call 800-287-4903. You can directly impact the lives of three local hospital patients if you are able; our community would greatly appreciate it.
