The Algona Band program has been continuing their successful year recently. A multitude of students participated in the NCIBA Honor Band on January 10th. Students submitted an application with information such as if they auditioned for All-State and used their previous solo ratings. Many students received first or second chair within the 9th/10th band and 11th/12th band. A concert was performed that evening following a full day of rehearsals.
On February 12th, selected students traveled to UNI to participate in the UNI Festival of Bands. Selected students include Abbie Droessler, David Kissinger, Paul Kissinger, Axel Mortensen, Cassidy Bierstedt, Catherine Hart, Connor Reagan, Brody Sudol, Owen Orban, Ethan Orban, and Kinsey Throne. Students rehearsed Thursday night, Friday, and Saturday in preparation for the concert Saturday evening featuring three bands of participants. Congratulations to all selected students.
The AHS Dawg Pound Sound has performed at four home basketball games this year. The band, while preparing for concert band events, takes time to bring a little pep and fun to the games. Allison Trunkhill, a trumpet player, said, “Some of the funniest memories come from pep band.” The band has received a lot of positive feedback from the community, referees, and even the other teams. Great job to both teams and the band as well!
On March 28th, students will travel to Clear Lake to perform in the state solo and small ensemble festival. Many students will perform a solo or perform in small groups to get a rating from a judge. This festival is a great opportunity for music students to show off their talent. Good luck to all participating!
