Spring is shaping up to be a busy and exciting time at Algona High School. With athletics, academic competitions, and special events right around the corner, students and families have plenty to look forward to in the months ahead.
The spring sports seasons kick off on Monday, February 23, as high school boys and girlsā track practices begin. That same day winter sports are still in action as Algona will compete against Humboldt High School in the first round of boysā basketball postseason play. The first high school boys and girlsā track meet of the season is scheduled for Thursday, March 12.
Students will wrap up Term 3 on Friday, March 13, just before enjoying Spring Break, which begins on Monday, March 16. While students are off for a full week break, spring athletics continue to ramp up, with the first day of boys and girlsā golf also starting on Monday, March 16.
Academic achievements will also be in the spotlight this spring. The Regional Science Fair will take place on Saturday, March 21, followed by the State Science Fair on Thursday and Friday, March 26ā27. Students involved in these events will have the opportunity to showcase their hard work and innovation.
Other important March events include the Academic Night of Excellence on March 24th. This will be held in conjunction with the National Honor Society induction ceremony. Superstars will be held on Wednesday, March 25. Colin Roberts says, āThe seniors will win Superstars this year!āā
The FFA Banquet will be held on Sunday, March 29, celebrating the accomplishments of the Algona FFA members.
April brings one of the most anticipated events of the year: Algona High School Prom on Saturday, April 18. Students will gather to celebrate the spring season with an evening of laughter and fun.
As the school year winds down, more sports begin. High school baseball and softball practices start on Monday, May 4, marking the beginning of another competitive season. Graduation ceremonies are set for May 17th. The final day of school is scheduled for Wednesday, May 20th, officially bringing the school year to a close.
