Scholarships 2026

Written by Alex Brooks

College can be very expensive, but with scholarships, it can help make it possible for every student to attend. Scholarships are free money to help students pay for college, trade school, or training. Students do not have to pay this money back. There are many different scholarships available, but many are based on grades, sports, community service, leadership, and financial need. Every student can apply for scholarships, they just have to find the ones that fit them the best

Algona High School students can find scholarships posted on Xello, Iowa College Access online, local businesses and community groups, and websites. You can search for scholarships, gather required information, then write and submit applications as described by each specific scholarship.

Tips for students looking for scholarships is to stay organized, keep on top of due dates, apply early, don’t skip small scholarships, and check for deadlines. Also, never pay money for a scholarship website.

If you need help with scholarships, check with either one of AHS counselors, Mr. McLaughlin or Mrs. Fischels. Students can also ask their advisors or English teachers about their essays.

Mrs. Fischels said, “There are a lot of opportunities out there. Some might require more work than others, but it's all worth it because the outcome can become financially changing.”
