Individual Speech is a competitive solo competition where students get the chance to practice public speaking and get a rating on it.
On Saturday, February 28th, three students from Algona High School traveled to Newell-Fonda High School for an individual speech competition. Those students were Mckenna Van Reese, Natalie Orban, and Elijah Garrett.
Garret received a Division I rating in Spontaneous Speaking. Orban
earned a Division I rating in storytelling. Van Reese and Garrett received Division II ratings in Solo Musical Theatre.
Elijah Garrett says, "Individual speech is a challenging process, but the reward when it's done well is extraordinary."
To highlight the students involved in individual and large group speech, there was a speech night on March 3rd in the Wilcox Performing Arts Center. Here individual and group speech participants were recognized, and they performed their competitive pieces.
Garrett and Orban will get the chance to compete again on Saturday, March 14th, in Denison, at State Speech.
