Saint Patrick's Day is a holiday celebrated annually on March 17th. This holiday is celebrating the patron saint of Ireland, who introduced christianity there in the 15th century. Originally the holiday was a religious feast day, but it has evolved into a worldwide celebration of Irish heritage.
Saint Patrick’s Day has been celebrated since 1631. St Patrick, who was the saint of Ireland, was thought to use the three leaf green shamrock to explain christianity, which is why the shamrock plays such a big role in the celebration of St Patrick’s Day. Originally the color for Saint Patrick's Day was blue, but green was later adopted from Irish immigrants in the United States to express their heritage pride. On this day, everyone dresses up wearing green, and if you aren't wearing green, you get pinched. Colin Roberts says, “Wear green so you don’t get pinched.”
There are many places around the area to celebrate your Irish pride. One place to celebrate the holiday is at the Whittemore Legion, where they're going to host a supper on Saint Patrick's Day for $20 per person. Also, Emmetsburg is hosting a Saint Patrick's Day parade on Saturday, March 14th, at 1pm.
So grab your green, and go celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day.
