Last month, Algona Model UN had an incredible experience at the 2nd Annual Muscatine Future Leaders Summit! Twelve students from AHS joined 100 participants from Iowa and 100 participants traveling across the world from China, in an effort to collaborate on global issues like sustainability, nuclear disarmament, and climate change. AHS students represented the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Venezuela, an
d Algeria.
Beyond committee sessions, students built meaningful connections through shared activities and cultural exchange. A highlight included Elijah Garrett leading the entire conference in singing “Happy Birthday” for Korbin Awe. Garrett also represented Algona by presenting his group’s work to the full assembly during the Awards Ceremony.
The students who represented AHS were 9th graders Karsyn Bailey, Triston Fillingim, Lizzie Gatton, Vladyslava Khomenko, Daisy Mitchell, and Zach Vileta; 10th graders, Korbin Awe, Sophia Fuerstenau, and Kinsey Throne; 11th grader Thomas Espe; and 12th graders Nick DePue and Elijah Garrett.
