The Algona Bulldogs’ boys track and field team is staying busy running hard. The boys started off the outdoor track season on Friday, April 10, at Humboldt High School. Some of the highlights from this meet include William Weichert getting 1st and Tate Garman getting 2nd in the 100 meter dash. Seth Moreno got 2nd in the 400 meter dash. The team of Weichert, Garman, Levi Walker, and Evan Allie got 1st in both the boys’ 4x100 meter relay and the boys’ 4x200 meter relay. In the 800 meter run, Gavin Weber got 1st and Cohen Thilges got 3rd. Owen Moe got 2nd in the 400 meter hurdles. In the 3200 meter dash, Axton Hood got 4th. In the sprint medley, Dawson Elsbecker, Moe, Cael Rotert, and Seth Moreno got 4th. In the 4x400 Moreno, Rotert, Thilges, and Moe got 3rd. In the 4x800, Ryan Ruehle, Breckin Borchardt, Thilges, and Grandon Dahlhauser got 1st. In the distance medley, Weichert, Garman, Allie, and Weber got 1st. In discus, Will Limbaugh got 1st and Max Nevitt got 5th. Jorge Contreras got 5th in the high jump. In
the long jump, Elsbecker got 2nd. In the shot put, Nevitt got 1st and Limbaugh got 4th.
On Saturday, April 11, a small group of the track team went to Iowa City West High School for the Eastern Iowa Track & Field Festival. The boys started off strong in the 100 meter dash, with Weichert finishing 4th and Garman finishing 7th. Allie, in the 200 meter dash, got 2nd. Weber, in the 1600 meter, got 4th. Nevitt won the boys’ shot put and also got 12th in the discus. The team of Weichert, Garman, Walker, and Allie got 2nd in both the boys’ 4x100 meter relay and the boys’ 4x200 meter relay.
On Monday, April 13, at the Garrigan co-ed meet, there were many records shattered. Starting with Max Nevitt, he broke the previous discus record by nearly four feet, with a throw of 177'6”. Nevitt ended up winning both shot out and discus with Will Limbaugh following in 2nd. In the 4x800, the team of Thilges, Hood, Dahlhauser, and Borchardt finished 3rd. Sadly the meet got cut short because of the weather.
The boys’ track team ran on Tuesday, April 14, at the Clear Lake Boys Invitational. Some of the top five finishers were Elsbecker getting 2nd in the long jump, as well as Nevitt getting 1st and Limbaugh getting 4th in the shot put. In discus, Nevitt got 1st and Limbaugh placed 2nd. In the 100 meter dash, Allie got 1st and Weichert got 2nd. The team of Weichert, Garman, Walker, and Allie got 1st in the 4x200 meter dash, 2nd in the 4x100 meter dash, and also 1st in the sprint medley relay. The team of Weber, Moreno, Moe, and Walker got 3rd in the 4x400 meter dash.
The boys were supposed to finish off the week at Estherville-Lincon Central High School tonight, but the weather pushed this meet back to next Friday, the 24th. On Tuesday, April 21, they will travel to Spirit Lake High School to compete. Owen Moe said, “I can’t wait for the next meet.”
