Teacher appreciation 2026

Written by Aylee Herke

It is almost Teacher Appreciation Week! The week to celebrate is May 6th-8th! Teacher Appreciation Week is a full week of celebration to honor educators for their dedication, hard work, and contributions to the school.

One way teacher appreciation is celebrated is by the school and the District's Board of Directors. They will be providing staff at all Algona Community School District buildings and the transportation department treats throughout the week. On Monday will be cinnamon rolls, Tuesday is muffins, Wednesday is donuts, Thursday is cookies, and Friday is ice cream. Also, each school will be having a sub sandwich bar one day of the week. Superintendent Mr. Carter states, “We know that providing some food is only a small token, but we hope everyone enjoys what will be offered during that week!”

AHS Student Senate is also showing their appreciation for the staff at Algona High School. Each grade was assigned a group of staff members to give back to. Seniors have the teachers and are providing goodie bags. Jordan Jansen says, “I love showing appreciation for the teachers who have helped me so much throughout high school.” The juniors have the office, administration, and teacher assistants. They are showing their appreciation by giving them cookies. Sophomores are assigned to the lunch staff, and they are giving out donuts. Finally, the freshmen have the custodians and bus drivers. They decided to give out key chains. These gifts will be delivered on May 6th!

The parents of the class of 2026 are also showing appreciation. They are providing a lot of goodies for the high school staff on Monday, May 4th. And HyVee has already donated coupons! “All of the gestures are very kind and appreciated,” states Mrs. Spear.

You don’t have to be a part of student council to show your support to your teachers, take it upon yourself to give back to them!
