Written by Phillip Myer

The final choir concert of the 2025-2026 school year will take place on Tuesday, May 5th, starting at 7:30pm. This concert will be held in the Wilcox Performing Arts Center. In addition to the songs, choir director, Mr. Herbst Ulmer, will be awarding choir letters and awards. Some of the awards include the ACD Award, which is for two seniors who have displayed leadership; the National Choral Award, which recognizes two seniors who have helped the choir improve; and the Outstanding Junior Award.  Some scholarship recipients will be recognized as well.

One highlighted piece the choir will perform is their State large group contest music; the competition is Friday, May 8th. The choir will be singing “Dies Irae,” by Ryan Main, “If Ye Love Me,” by Thomas Tallis, and “Will the Circle Be Unbroken,” arranged by J.David Moore. There will also be a men's piece and women’s piece. Some of the division one small group ensembles will also perform.

“This choir has really improved in quality; we receive many accolades from those we sing for,” states Mr. HU.

For State large group festival on May 8th, there will be 17 choirs performing all in the high school gym at Algona High School. Choirs start performing right after school until about 9:30.

The senior song choice this year is an arrangement of the song “Slipping Through My Fingers” by ABBA, which they will be performing at the graduation ceremony.
