Band 2025

Written by Brooklyn Adams

Large Group Festival is an opportunity for bands and choirs across Iowa to showcase their abilities. Both Algona High School’s band and choir will perform for a panel of three judges to receive a rating. This performance isn’t about winning but rather about how well the band or choir performs and improves.

The band and choir have been preparing two to three pieces to perform and will be evaluated on tone quality, rhythm and accuracy, expression and musicality, and technique. Ratings available are a Division I, II, III, IV, and V. Most schools in Iowa will perform on May 8th and 9th to demonstrate their hard work. Algona’s choir director, Todd Herbst-Ulmer, says, “It is a great opportunity for our ensembles to watch other choirs and bands and see what repertoire they are playing at their best.”

The Algona band and choir will perform on May 8th. Algona will host a 1A/3A site. Participating schools include North Union, West Hancock, Bishop Garrigan, Northwood-Kensett, Lake Mills, Newell-Fonda, Newman Catholic, North Iowa-Buffalo Center, Clear Lake, Humboldt, Spirit Lake, and Spencer. The Algona choir will perform at 8:05pm in the high school gym and the band will finish off the night at 9:15pm in the Wilcox Performing Arts Center. Good luck to all participants!
