Golf 4/14/26

As the Algona High School boys' and girls' golf seasons have begun, the amount of meets continue to pick up quickly. 

The girls faced Emmetsburg, Estherville Lincoln Central, Spencer, and Spirit Lake at the Estherville Golf Course, with the first tee time at 10:00 a.m. on April 17th. The girls placed 3rd out of the 5 teams at this tournament. Gabby Venteicher led the team with a 56. 

On the 21st, the girls had a home meet against St. Edmond and Hampton-Dumont; tee time was at 4:30. Algona won the meet with a score of 192, followed by Hampton with 244 and St. Edmond with 276. Venteicher and Taylor Hellman led the team with 45 and 49, respectively. 

On Friday the 24th, Clear Lake hosted a triangular, with Charles City also attending. Algona put up a good effort but lost by just three strokes to Clear Lake. Clear Lake scored 193, and Algona followed with 196; Charles City rounded out the scores with 233. Venteicher was runner-up for scoring, missing winning by one stroke, with a 47. On Tuesday, April 28th, the girls traveled to Spencer. Algona came in second place at 215. Spencer won with a score of 199 and Webster City was third with 236.

Varsity boys participated in the Bill Chambers Invitational on Monday, April 20th. This 18-hole tournament, hosted at Spencer Golf & Country Club, featured 16 schools. Tee time was set for 10:00 a.m. Nathan Manske was the main leader of the team with an average of 78 for 18 holes. The team ended up standing in fifth place. 

Then they had an eventful week, having three meets in a row, on April 21st, April 24th, and April 25th. On the 21st, they went to Hampton. Algona placed first with a team score of 165. Manske came in with an individual score of 39, and Micah Kitzinger did well with a score of 40.

On the 24th, they were at home against Clear Lake and Charles City. The boys came one stroke short of Clear Lake, placing second with a 154, with Clear Lake having 153. Charles City placed third with 186. Wyatt Kelly placed 1st with a 36, followed by a tie between Manske and Clear Lake’s Fisher with 37’s.

Alesch golf 4/25/26They were home again on Saturday, April 25th, for a tournament at Eagle Hills Golf Course. Algona tied for first place as a team with Forest City with a score of 320 for 18 holes. Next was Belmond Klemme with 340. Algona’s JV team was next with 346. Rounding out the tournament were West Fork with 355, Clarion with 385, and Eagle Grove with 430. Individually, Manske won the tournament with a score of 74.

On Tuesday, the 28th, the boys traveled to Estherville. They placed second with a team score of 158, coming close after Estherville’s score of 156. For individual scores, Manske led with a total of 37, coming in fourth overall. Alex Brooks and Teague Alesch also did well, both scoring a total of 40. 

Upcoming, the girls have a meet on Friday, May 1st, in Humboldt for a triangular including Clarion-Goldfield-Dows. Tee time starts at 4:00 p.m. The boys' team is also in action on Friday, traveling to Clarion to play against the Cowboys and Humboldt. Tee time will be at 4:30 p.m. The Varsity boys will also participate in the Storm Lake Invitational on Saturday, May 2nd. This tournament will be against eleven different schools, and the tee time will start at 9:00 a.m.
