Algona High Named FAFSA School of Excellence

Algona High School has earned statewide recognition from the Iowa Department of Education as a FAFSA Focused School of Excellence for its outstanding commitment to driving postsecondary readiness during the 2025–26 school year.

The distinction honors high schools across the state that set and meet ambitious student completion goals for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Algona High School surpassed the state’s rigorous benchmark for the award by achieving a 72 percent FAFSA completion rate among its senior class. That figure puts Algona well ahead of the statewide average of 54.2 percent, placing the school among an elite group of just 28 institutions statewide designated as Schools of Excellence for reaching or exceeding the 70 percent completion milestone.

Completing the FAFSA serves as a vital bridge to postsecondary opportunities, unlocking access to federal, state, and institutional grants, scholarships, work-study options, and loans. By prioritizing this process, the Algona Community School District ensures its graduates can navigate financial aid barriers and take confident steps toward higher education, career training, and future achievement.

As part of the recognition, Algona High School will receive targeted support and resources from the Iowa Department of Education to build on this momentum, continuing to streamline the transition from high school to postsecondary success for all students.
