On February 27th, AHS speech students competed in the individual District speech competition. Speech at AHS is directed by Mrs. Zuetlau, and this year, a great number of students competed. Instead of an in-person competition, students recorded their performances and submitted them online. They were then judged remotely and results were emailed to the director the following week.
There are several different categories for individual speech. In the Radio Broadcasting category, Ryan Merrill received a Division I rating. Ava Roach, who performed in the Solo Musical Theater category, received a Division I rating. Shea Thilges, also doing Solo Musical Theater, received a Division I rating. Ryan Merrill also participated in Solo Musical Theater and received a Division I rating. John Cox, who competed in the category called Review, was awarded a Division I rating.
Students who received a Division I rating from Districts then advanced on to the State competition. On March 13th, State speech videos were due. The results for State include: Ryan Merrill with a Division II rating for Radio Broadcasting. Ava Roach, Shea Thilges, and Ryan Merrill all received a Division II rating for Solo Musical Theatre. To finish off the results, John Cox received a Division II rating for his Review.
