March Madness winner - Noah Nelson

As the March Madness basketball bracket ends, AHS will find out the Algona High School winner for the 2021 bracket. The winner will get an ice cream cake from Dairy Queen.

On Saturday, April 3rd, when Gonzaga went into overtime, it had half the country up on their feet. With 3.8 seconds left in overtime, UCLA scored a lay-up, scoring two points to tie the game. As the clock counted down until there were 3.3 seconds left on the clock, Jalen Suggs, whose hometown is St. Paul, Minnesota, shot the ball after taking two steps past half court. Suggs made the three, getting Gonzaga to go to the championship game. This was also the first undefeated team to play in the championship since 1976, with Indiana.

Before the championship game, Wyatt Streit was in first place in the AHS bracket with 1190 points. In second place was Jake Zabka. Both Streit and Zabka had Gonzaga winning it all.

After the championship game, with Baylor winning 86-70, Wyatt Streit moved to 2nd and Jake Zabka moved to 5th. With Baylor winning, Ashley Cantu moved to 4th and Kaden Wadle placed in 3rd. The winner of the 2021 AHS March Madness bracket is Noah Nelson, with a total of 1,300 points.

Nelson chose to have his ice cream cake delivered on Mrs. Spear’s birthday, to celebrate with the rest of his present day literature class.
