Track 2021 - Jaxon Woodyard

The Algona Bulldog track teams are already halfway through their seasons! Both teams continue to work hard in practice and at meets.

The girls’ team participated in the Bishop Garrigan Relays on Friday, April 16th. Algona took first place out of eight teams! Algona scored 153 points. Forest City took second place with 145 team points. Moriah Knapp took first place in three events for the Bulldogs. Knapp ran the 3,000 meter run in a time of 11:06, the 1500 meter run with a time of 5:20, and the 800 meter run with a time of 2:33. Alexa Chase took first place in the 100 meter dash, clocking a time of 13.43. Dionna VanGorkom jumped 5’0” for a first place finish in the high jump. A’Lailah Perry won the discus with a throw of 106 feet. Perry says, “I love being a thrower!”

The boys’ team traveled to Waukee on April 15th for a meet. Some highlights from this meet include the sprint medley team of Brad Mullins, Tyler Manske, Nick Brown, and Cameren Rindone placing 4th in a time of 1:42.06. Caleb Omdahl placed 3rd in the high jump, with a jump of 5’8”. Ryan Stundahl placed 4th in the 3200 meter run, with a time of 10:34.94.

The boys’ team traveled to Estherville on April 16th for a meet. Some highlights from this meet include Ryan Stundahl placing 1st in the 1600 meter race with a time of 4:58.70 and he also placed first in the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:43.26. Caden Weber was 2nd in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:14.58. Tyler Manske was 2nd in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.52, followed closely by Porter Reffer in 3rd with a time of 11.76. The 4x200 meter team of Carlos Gomez-Banchs, Cameren Rindone, Nick Brown, and Tyler Manske placed 2nd.

The girls’ squad traveled to Webster City on Thursday, April 22nd. Algona placed third out of eight teams with 112 team points. Iowa Falls-Alden won the meet with 119 team points. A’Lailah Perry won the discus with a throw of 95 feet. The 4x200 meter relay of Alexa Chase, Ava Henry, Dionna VanGorkom, and Ella Lawson took first place, clocking in a time of 1:53.

The boys were in Pocahontas on April 24th. Here they placed 5th as a team. First place finishes came from Ryan Stundahl in the 3200 meter run, with a time of 10:35.80 and Caleb Omdahl in the high jump with a jump of 5’8”. Second place finishes went to Nick Brown in the 400 meter run, the sprint medley team, and Ryan Stundahl in the 1600 meter run. 

The girls’ team traveled to Humboldt on Monday, April 26th, to compete. Algona placed fourth out of eight teams with 96 team points. Humboldt won the meet with 152 team points. Algona had a few second place finishes. The 1600 meter medley relay team of Dionna VanGorkom, Peyton Bradley, Ella Lawson, and Moriah Knapp placed second with a time of 4:35.6.  The 4x100 meter relay of Alexa Chase, Kayla Thompson, Ava Henry, and Radaisyia Thomas placed second with a time of 53.7. The 4x400 meter relay team of Dionna VanGorkom, Peyton Bradley, Brooklyn Helmers, and Ella Lawson placed second with a time of 4:24.7.

The girls’ team competed in Forest City on Tuesday, April 27th. The 4x400 meter relay team of Peyton Badley, Dionna VanGorkom, Brooklyn Helmers, and Ella Lawson placed first with a time of 4:35.39. A’Lailah Perry placed first in the shot put with a throw of 33-06.5. Tora Solbach placed first in the long jump with a jump of 14-04.5.

Also on April 27th, the boys had a meet. Theirs was the Clint Steele Relays in Emmetsburg. The team placed 2nd with a score of 119. Caleb Omdahl won the high jump again, and Ryan Stundahl came in 1st again in the 3200 meter run. Second place finishes came from Nick Brown in the 200 meter dash and Ryan Stundahl in the 1600 meter race.

Next up for both squads is the Hackbarth Relays at home on Monday, May 3rd.
