Prom 2021

The Algona 2021 Prom was a great success! All throughout the week, juniors, junior parents, and some seniors worked hard to put on a memorable night. The theme, Night of a Thousand Lights, stood true. The entire commons was transformed into a lit up blue dance floor. Decorations consisted of different sized pillars, a fountain, a cutout limo, and a sparkly moon.

Students got ready all throughout the day and arrived at the school for social hour at 7. During social hour, attendees were able to take pictures with each other at a handful of photo opportunities available. They were also able to talk and soak in how beautiful the commons looked. Teachers and parents volunteered their time to help take pictures and make this night even more memorable.

After social hour, students, parents, and anyone else who wanted to watch, filed into the gym for the Grand March. Grand March went from 8-9:30. During this time, attendees walked the stage and gave everyone a look at their fashionable attire. They had fun coming up with different ways to pose at the end for a picture. Those who wanted to watch but weren’t able to come were also able to watch on AHS Broadcasting’s live stream.

Once the Grand March was over, students rushed to get on the dance floor. Participants danced and sang the night away. During the dance, there was a photo booth where students could go dress up and hold funny signs to pose with their friends. Different snacks and refreshments were provided, and much needed, during this time. The dance went until 11:30.

When the dance was over, students changed out of their dresses and tuxes and got ready for After Prom. Up first was the hypnotist! Twenty brave students volunteered, but not all were able to be hypnotized. After a lot of laughter, a variety of food was served and games were set out. Students signed up earlier in the week to take part in the four different escape rooms that ran until the end of the night. The fastest escape time went to the group of Dylan Berte, Analia Perez, Nick Hardman, Ryan Merrill, Jasmyne Harrison, and Carter Casey. Other games at After Prom included checkers, ping pong, and mini golf. A popular activity was nerf gun wars that was held in the wrestling room. Seniors were given tickets to win prizes at the end of the night. After drawing for prizes, students gathered their things and went home to go to bed.

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped put together this year’s Prom. Senior Dionna VanGorkom said, “I was so grateful that we were able to have Prom this year because of Covid. It was so much fun and everything looked amazing!” Thank you to the Prom sponsors, Margo and Jenni Adams. This year was Margo’s last Prom. AHS is forever grateful for all the hard work that she has put into Prom over the years! Hopefully everyone had a great time!
