Homecoming dress up days 2021

It’s that time of the year again! Homecoming is the perfect opportunity for reconnecting with old friends and to overall have a great time and show school spirit. Next week, September 20-24, 2021, Algona High School will be holding its Homecoming.

The theme for 2021 is Bulldogs Rule Around the World. The seniors’ hallway theme is Paris, juniors’ hallway is Africa, sophomores’ hallway is jungle/rainforest, and the freshmen’s hallway is beach/ tropical. Students will be able to decorate their hallways on Sunday, September 19, from 1-6. The hallways will be able to be viewed throughout Homecoming week by students and the community can come check out the hallways Wednesday night, September 22nd, during Muscle Volleyball time.

Monday, September 20, is the students’ first dress-up day, Music Day. There will be sporting events on this day as well; the cross country team will be running in Humboldt at 4:45. The freshman football team will play in Estherville at 5:00, with the JV team to follow at 6:15

Tuesday, September 21, is Tourist Day. Students get to dress up as tourists, so make sure to pick out your favorite Hawaiian shirt to show your school spirit.

Wednesday, September 22, the students get to stay home while the teachers stay at the school for a staff development day! Don’t forget though, Powderpuff football, where girls play flag football, is at 6:30 on the football field.  Muscle Volleyball will follow, where boys play volleyball, in the AHS gym.

Thursday, September 23, be ready for Dynamic Duos around the school. Also on this day, the Model UN team has their Regional Conference at NIACC. Freshman, JV, and Varsity volleyball teams will be in Clear Lake at 6:00 and 7:30.

Don’t forget, if you dress up for the different days, stop by Spear’s room to get pictures! Best dressed students, grades 9-12, will receive awards at the pep rally on Friday.

Friday, September 24, is Spirit Day. Everyone will be dressed up in red and black to support the Bulldogs. Elementary and middle school pep rallies start the day. At these, the AHS drumline performs, cheerleaders lead cheers, and the senior football players give pep talks. They will travel to Bertha, Bryant, Lucia, the middle school, and Corwith.

The high school pep rally will begin at 1:00 pm, so be sure to bring your best school spirit. As of right now, the pep rally is planned to be held outside, on the football field. The pep rally will feature last year’s king & queen, class games, this year’s court, and hallway and dress up day winners. Fall activities will also be recognized at the pep rally, including cross country, Model UN, swim team, the  musical,  volleyball,  Student Senate, and football.  The band, drill team, and cheerleaders will perform. The pep rally will end with the crowning of this year’s Homecoming king & queen.

The parade will then start at 2:15pm. The parade will go from Bertha Godfrey south on Main Street. It then goes west on McGregor to Hale Street, ending in front of the high school.

Starting at 7:00 will be the Varsity football game vs. North Polk. Sadie Zipse said, “I am super excited for the game, and I can’t wait to see who wins!”  After the game, AHS is holding a Glow Night event on the football field until midnight. Bring your bright colors and friendly faces to enjoy a free night of games, music, and fun with friends!
