May term

On March 23, 2022, the underclassmen signed up for May term activities. May term is a new event for the 2021-2022 school year. This will take place on May 19, 20, 23, from 8:15 to 3:00 all three days. The goal behind this new program is to provide a unique and enriching learning experience for students.

The activities are broken up by full and half day activities. The white courses include all three day activities that last all day long. Options include: Ag Career Options with Mrs. Becker; Arnolds Park, Fort Frenzy, and Tennis with Mr. Green and Mr. Kahler; Auto Extended with Mr. Ricklefs; Basket of Everything with Mr. Birkey, Mrs. Cassens, Mr. Cecil, Mr. VanOtterloo, and Mr. Weier, which includes biking, kayaking, and ax throwing/bowling; Enrich Your Soul, Mind, and Creativity with Mrs. Spear, which includes crafting at Rustic Station, an escape room, and volunteering at an animal shelter; Fishing with Mr. Connick, Mr. Young, Mr. Yi, and Mr. Slagle; Golf & Cards with Mr. Fogarty, Mr. Ford, and Mr. Bradley; Let’s Get Creative with Mrs. Louwagie; Lifeguard Training with Mr. Kuecker; Photography and Movies with Mrs. Zannelli; and Woodworking 101 with Mr. Orban.

The other choices to pick from were morning and afternoon sessions. Students who signed up for these must  have a separate morning and afternoon activity to do.  Black courses are all of the morning activities, from 8:15 to 11:45, which includes lunch. The red activities take place from 12:00 to 3:00. The black activities are: Coffee with Mrs. Zuetlau, Elementary Peer Helping with Mrs. Jacobson, or Self Defense Combatives (Jiu Jitsu) with Mr. Liebl. Then for the red activities that will happen in the afternoon are Broadcasting with Mr. Nelson, Emergency Services Training with Mrs. Jacobson, Fashion with Mrs. Zuetlau, and Music Independent Study with Mr. Liebl. There are two activities that could go in the morning or afternoon, which are Outdoor Rec with Mr. Elsbecker, Mrs. Garman, Mrs. Traub, and Mr. Worsfold and E-Sports with Mr. Arrowood and Mr. Stein.

Overall, many are super excited to try these new activities once the seniors are gone. This is a mandatory activity needed to pass on to another grade. Adalee Meyer said, “I signed up for the one that goes to Arnolds Park. I am very excited to go there with all of my friends!” There is a lot of excitement around all of these fun-filled activities coming May 19-23!
