FFA chapter 2023

In 1948, just one year following the establishment of the Algona FFA Chapter, the National Board of FFA directors designated the week of George Washington’s birthday as “National FFA Week.” This year, FFA Week runs from Saturday, February 18th to Saturday February 25th.

During this week FFA members, alumni, and sponsors direct their focus to advocate for agriculture education and the National FFA Organization. This week is an opportunity to share with local, state, and national audiences what FFA is all about and the ways it impacts members every day. Events throughout this week allow thousands of chapters all over the country to communicate with others about this organization and ignite a passion for agriculture.

This year, the Algona Chapter will celebrate in a variety of ways. All week long a block scavenger hunt for Algona High School students will take place.  FFA week will kick off on Monday February 20th is Blue & Gold day recognizing the colors of the FFA.   Tuesday February 21st the students will be wearing their chapter t-shirts and sweatshirts.  Tuesday night is the annual community pancake feed and labor action.  The meal is a free will donation and members auctioned will be sold to the highest bidder for four hours of work.  The community members are invited to come hungry and bring your wallets!  Wednesday February 22nd is All American Day (Red, White, and Blue).  We will also have a cherry pie feed for the faculty to thank them for all they do for the FFA members  Thursday February 23rd has been designated as Camouflage and Hat day.  On February 24th, the members will celebrate Farmer Friday and they will be wearing their favorite flannel or farmer clothing.  Friday February 25th is also FFA Recruitment Day with FFA chapter representatives meeting with the eighth graders at Algona Middle School and Bishop Garrigan. During FFA week the members will be serving cherry pies to the 8th grade students of both schools.

Members are looking forward to events and activities going on during FFA Week and are excited to share with fellow students and community members the fun and importance of this organization, but it would not be possible without the assistance and encouragement of caring people and groups who strive to see this chapter grow and succeed.  The Kossuth Co Farm Bureau will be bringing in pizza during the lunch hour during FFA week for the ag students to celebrate FFA.

Algona FFA would like to send special thanks in advance to the AHS School Board and administration for their support and acknowledgement of agricultural education, approval of tractors and various uses of the school building. Thank you to the Kossuth Co Farm Bureau for their time and continued support of the chapter. Thank you to the area print publications and KLGA Radio for keeping the public in touch with the chapter’s current events and activities. Thank you to Algona FFA Alumni for all they do to support the chapter behind the scenes. Finally, thank you to Algona and surrounding towns for constant service and cooperation by allowing for growth and success of the community’s future farmers.
