At the end of each school year, the staff meets to celebrate important milestones for their fellow colleagues.

**The ACSD awards Golden Apples to staff members with 25 years of service. This year's Golden Apple award recipients were Kelly Gisch, Missy Krieps, and James Rotert.

Today, Algona Community School District pauses to remember and honor the men & women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Our schools/offices are closed today as we reflect on the freedoms we are privileged to enjoy.

Tomorrow is the last day of school! Elementaries are dismissed at 11:15 and the MS/HS are dismissed at 11:30. No lunch will be served tomorrow. Have a great summer!

Algona Families --

Around Noon today, we received a call that Garrigan had received a possible threat to school safety. After speaking with our law enforcement, we have decided to place our school buildings on shelter-in-place while our authorities work with the FBI to assess the credibility of the threat. At the same time, our authorities decided to deploy a police presence at all of our school buildings and the Bishop Garrigan buildings. Later in the afternoon, after multiple communications with our local police department, it was determined that it was safe to dismiss students as usual and lift the shelter-in-place.

Thank you all for your patience in working through this situation. We work directly with our authorities in these situations to keep our buildings, students, and staff safe. We also work with the same people to communicate effectively with our families and communities. I am grateful for our relationship and how well they help us through these types of events.

Today, we had to ask our parents to stay away and NOT come to our school buildings. I know that can create a lot of anxiety and nerves, but it allows everyone to safely do their jobs in these critical moments. All of you were great, thank you so much for helping us out! We will always communicate with you as quickly as we can, and with as much information as possible.

The last day of school will be Wednesday, May 20th! Elementaries will dismiss at 11:15 with AMS & AHS dismissing at 11:30. Lunch will not be served that day.

It's Teacher Appreciation Week and big things are happening at Lucia Wallace! We are so grateful for our 3rd and 4th-grade teachers who inspire critical thinking and independence. Thank you for guiding our students as they transition into leaders and lifelong scholars.

The annual McTeacher's Night will be on Monday, May 4 at the Algona McDonalds! Elementary teachers will be helping serve from 4:00-7:00 PM that evening! All proceeds help support the ACSD elementaries!

Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASPs) start this week! Be sure to offer encouraging words as they leave you for the day. Let them go into the week excited, energetic, and full of confidence!!

Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASPs) are coming up soon. Sleep and nutrition can have a huge impact on your child’s ability to focus and retain information. One of the most helpful things parents and adults can do is focus on supporting these basic needs. Well-balanced meals and a regular and consistent sleep schedule can really help your child succeed in the classroom everyday but especially during the times of state testing. On test days, it is vitally important to make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and begins the day full of energy. Drinking water in the morning is a great way to start the day and can remind students to bring a water bottle to school to stay hydrated and alert throughout the testing sessions.

The Board of Directors will conduct a public hearing on the proposed 26/27 school budget on April 13 at 5:30 PM in the AHS Boardroom. At the hearing, any resident or taxpayer may present objections to, or arguments in favor of, any part of the proposed budget. Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASPs) are coming up soon. Some students can become anxious in the weeks or days before testing but a little encouragement from adults around them can go a long way in helping students walk into testing days feeling confident. Confidence can have a huge effect on how students perform. Ask your child what they are doing in class and how confident they feel about their work. Offer praise to your child when they feel confident and encourage them to continue to be excited about their success with new concepts or skills. Similarly, if your child is telling you they are struggling with a concept, topic, or skills, point out the progress they are making and positively encourage them to continue working—never give up on your learning!
