Individual speech 2024

AHS students involved in individual speech are starting up their season as they prepare for their first competition, which takes place on February 24th, at Sioux Central Community School District.

Students involved in individual speech this year include Loralei Brady, Sydney Seebecker, Evan Posey, Sadie Johnson, Remi Shaffer, Flynn McCann, Natalee Reemstma, and Wynter VanReese. Senior, Loralei Brady, states, “Being able to compete in musical theater is more fun than I ever thought it’d be. It has made my confidence in public skyrocket.”

Individual Speech is an extracurricular activity where students compete against other high school students from different schools in their certain category. They work for weeks prior to competition to perfect their performance. Some popular categories students compete in include musical theater, radio broadcasting, prose, original oratory, and solo improvisation.

In order to proceed after Districts, students must get a Division I rating at Districts. If they get a I, they will move on to State, which takes place at Kuemper Catholic High School on March 9th.
