At the end of each school year, the staff meets to celebrate important milestones for their fellow colleagues.
** Dianna Haynes was awarded the "Class of '79 Teacher of the Year Award"
** We celebrated 10 retirees!- Steve Young, Brian Connick, Cari Connick, Colleen Bowman, Jon Heuser, Diane Goodman, Sheila Stecker, Karla Kenne, Mike Elsbecker and Mike Weir (not present)
**The ACSD awards Golden Apples to staff members with 25 years of service. This year's Golden Apple award recipients were Kelly Gisch, Missy Krieps, and James Rotert.

Today, Algona Community School District pauses to remember and honor the men & women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Our schools/offices are closed today as we reflect on the freedoms we are privileged to enjoy.

Algona Families --

Around Noon today, we received a call that Garrigan had received a possible threat to school safety. After speaking with our law enforcement, we have decided to place our school buildings on shelter-in-place while our authorities work with the FBI to assess the credibility of the threat. At the same time, our authorities decided to deploy a police presence at all of our school buildings and the Bishop Garrigan buildings. Later in the afternoon, after multiple communications with our local police department, it was determined that it was safe to dismiss students as usual and lift the shelter-in-place.

Thank you all for your patience in working through this situation. We work directly with our authorities in these situations to keep our buildings, students, and staff safe. We also work with the same people to communicate effectively with our families and communities. I am grateful for our relationship and how well they help us through these types of events.

Today, we had to ask our parents to stay away and NOT come to our school buildings. I know that can create a lot of anxiety and nerves, but it allows everyone to safely do their jobs in these critical moments. All of you were great, thank you so much for helping us out! We will always communicate with you as quickly as we can, and with as much information as possible.

The last day of school will be Wednesday, May 20th! Elementaries will dismiss at 11:15 with AMS & AHS dismissing at 11:30. Lunch will not be served that day.

It's the last week of school for the Class of 2026! Commencement will be held on Sunday, May 17th in the AHS Gym at 2:00 PM. It will also be live streamed on the AHS Broadcasting YouTube channel.

Algona is hosting the IHSMA Large Group Festival this evening! Area bands & choirs will be performing in the Wilcox PAC and AHS gym, respectively. You can still help too!
