Sleep and nutrition can have a huge impact on your child’s ability to focus and retain information. One of the most helpful things parents and adults can do is focus on supporting these basic needs. Well-balanced meals and a regular and consistent sleep schedule can really help your child succeed in the classroom everyday but especially during the times of state testing. On test days, it is vitally important to make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and begins the day full of energy. Drinking water in the morning is a great way to start the day and can remind students to bring a water bottle to school to stay hydrated and alert throughout the testing sessions.

Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASPs) are coming up soon. Some students can become anxious in the weeks or days before testing but a little encouragement from adults around them can go a long way in helping students walk into testing days feeling confident. Confidence can have a huge effect on how students perform. Ask your child what they are doing in class and how confident they feel about their work. Offer praise to your child when they feel confident and encourage them to continue to be excited about their success with new concepts or skills. Similarly, if your child is telling you they are struggling with a concept, topic, or skills, point out the progress they are making and positively encourage them to continue working—never give up on your learning!

Reminder- Thursday, April 6th is a FULL DAY of school due to earlier weather interruptions. There is NO SCHOOL Friday, April 7th or Monday, April 10th.

Will your boat float? After learning about Columbus and the Pilgrims, Mrs. Stecker's class made tinfoil boats, predicted and tested whether they floated. We had so much fun!

We had THE BEST time last Friday! We wrapped up our reading challenge, "Blast Off Into Reading!" with a finale event and celebrated by going to 4 different rotations. There was a craft/coloring station, a story being read, space bingo, and a constellation/stars station.
We have some very important people to thank that helped make this event such a success:
Kristy Allison from the Algona Public Library for coming and reading to the students (12 rounds of reading!!)
Paws Club for supplying some yummy space related treats for everyone!
AEA for supplying us with the Star Lab!
Billie Willie for her expertise in setting up the Star Lab and sharing some of her knowledge of the stars with us. (Be sure to check out her program at the Nature Center when it's here next! She is so knowledgeable and it is such a cool event!)
Here are a few pictures from our reading challenge fun. Be sure to check back in the next week or so for more!
We are SOO proud of all the students and all the books everyone read! It was so fun to see so many charts full of stickers for bringing back reading slips!

The AHS Drama department will present "The Play That Goes Wrong" on Saturday, April 1st at 7:00 PM & Sunday, April 2nd at 4:00 PM in the Wilcox PAC. Cost is $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for students.

Bertha Godfrey is a busy place during the month of April! Please check the graphic or PDF to stay informed on everything that is taking place.

A note from Mr. Cater- With the 2 Hour Late Start on Thursday, March 23rd, our students are not on schedule to attend school the required 1080 hours. However, we only need to make a small adjustment to allow us to reach that number. On Thursday, April 6th, students will be dismissed at our normal dismissal times rather than one hour early as we posted on our original calendar.
Thanks you for your continued support and flexibility!
