The Wall of Fame committee is pleased to announce that they will be including a “Historical” inductee for upcoming years. The first inductee in this category will be the 1925 State Championship football team! This Fall will be the 100th Anniversary of this great AHS Team. The Bulldogs boasted several players who were listed on various All State teams, led by future Hawkeye and Chicago Bear player, and Boston College Head Coach Denny Meyer. The powerful bulldog team outscored their opponents that season 235 - 23!
Ladies and gentlemen please welcome to the AHS Wall of Fame, the 1925 State Championship Football Team!

Heitland was a longtime fixture on the Bulldog sidelines and Track during his tenure in Algona. During his career he led four teams to the playoffs in football and seven NCC Championships in Track and Field including 6 straight from 1996 to 2001. In 1993, Heitland led the Bulldogs to a State Class 3A State Championship in Track and Field. Heitland also served at the state level as President for the Iowa Football Coaches Association and was selected to coach the Iowa Shrine Bowl North squad.

The Middle School Cross Country team had fun in practice this week playing Garbage Ball!

The next inductee for the 2025 Wall of Fame is the 1972 State Wrestling Champions! The 1972 State title team consisted of Scott Buchanan, Gene Hunt, Paul Martin, Randy Nielsen, Managers Mike Koob and Cal Carson, Head Coach Dale Bahr and Assistant Coach Ron TerHark. The Bulldogs came out on top in a State Tournament dominated by the North Central Conference, besting Runner-Up Clarion by 2.5 points. They were closely followed by Humboldt and Eagle Grove in 3rd and 4th respectively. This was the third state title in four years for Algona!

Our next Wall of Fame Inductee for 2025 is John Strohman. Strohman was an outstanding wrestler for the Bulldogs from 1977-1980, finishing his career with an impressive 113 - 5 record! It is interesting to note that his only losses came in the NCC Championship match as a freshman and at the State Tournament. He was a 3 time NCC Champion, 2 time State Runner-up and 2 time State 3rd place finisher.
