Last week AHS held a pep rally to celebrate the many activities that take place during the winter months, which included Dylan Alt advancing to state swim, the jazz choir receiving a Division I rating and the success of our state speech participants. Lifted from "Algona Schools Vocal & Instrumental Promoters-VIPs" Facebook page- What an amazing 3 days our band students had at 2023 UNI Northern Festival of Bands. From Thursday till Saturday we had four of our students representing Algona along with 70 other Schools with over 327 students from Iowa, Illinois and Minnesota. Lots of practice and many performances they were able to watch. Great time and represented Algona so amazingly. Lots of new friendships were made. Reminder- there is school with a 1:30 dismissal on Wednesday, Feb. 22nd. This is a change from the original calendar due to the winter weather.

Conferences are coming up on Feb. 27-28. There will be a 2:30 dismissal both days and conferences will take place from 4:00-7:30 (AHS on Monday only). Also, there is no school on March 3. Sign up for K-4 conferences can be found at https://www.myconferencetime.com/algona/

Over the past few years, part of teacher’s professional development has been focused around restorative practices and students’ social and emotional learning. One method that teachers have been utilizing are circles. Today the middle school would like to introduce that practice and show it being applied in the classroom. Congratulations to the AHS jazz choir, Scarlet Midnight, for receiving a Division I rating at the IHSMA State Jazz Choir Festival last night. Their next performance will be at Spirit Lake's "Shake the Lakes" on February 17th. Keep up the good work!
